“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” –John Quincy Adams
I think these words from our sixth American president speak to our role as members of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. In my nursing career, I have been inspired by numerous colleagues, especially STTI members, over the years to do more and become more. As 2016-2018 President of the Omicron Delta Chapter of STTI, I hope that you will join me in dreaming, learning, doing, and becoming more of what we are meant to be, not only as individuals but as a chapter. My presidential message is simply “INSPIRE MORE!” It is my hope that these two words will create excitement among our members to take our chapter to new heights in scholarship, leadership, and service.
DREAM MORE: My challenge for our chapter members is to “dream more.” If you have a great idea that you think Omicron Delta should work on, let us know. Post a message to our members on the Circle so we can dialogue about your dreams and aspirations. There may be some like-minded individuals who are willing to join forces to make a dream come true.
LEARN MORE: I encourage you to “learn more.” Consider attending our chapter’s educational conference. Take advantage of the many STTI resources. If you have never attended the biennium, it is an amazing display of the global presence of STTI and how we are living the mission of “advancing world health and celebrating nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service.”
DO MORE: Our current STTI President Cathy Catrambone’s message is one of advocacy, which I think requires us to rise to the occasion and “do more.” I know that we are all busy with life, but do you ever look at that one person who just seems to be able to handle so many commitments with style and grace? We are always looking for volunteers to help with chapter business, service activities, and events. Please consider doing just one thing in the coming year to share your talents and help us meet our mission.
BECOME MORE: In the process of dreaming, learning, and doing, we inevitably “become more” of what we are meant to be as we reach our human potential. In dreaming, learning, doing, and becoming more, we also inspire others to do the same.
I hope that you will contact me to share your dreams, inspirations, ideas, questions, or comments at my email address provided below. Let’s INSPIRE MORE!
With MORE LOVE, COURAGE, and HONOR,
